Mercedes-AMG EQS has up to 761 hp, does 0-100 in 3.4 seconds

Mercedes-Benz unveiled the EQS a few months ago, but of the two versions presented back then, neither had AMG co-branding. So the waiting game commenced for an AMG version, and today this has finally been announced.

The Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ will itself have two versions. The lower one develops a total output of 484 kW (658 hp) with a maximum torque of 950 Nm. With the optional AMG Dynamic Plus package, the output ratchets up to 560 kW (761 hp) with 1020 Nm of torque, in a special "race start" mode with boost function.

For this pumped-up version 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration is accomplished in 3.4 seconds with a battery charge level of at least 80%, and the top speed is limited to 250 km/h (155 mph). If you get the non-boosted AMG EQS you're looking at 3.8 seconds for 0-100 and a maximum speed of 220 km/h (136 mph).

The 4MATIC+ branding definitely gave it away for Mercedes fans, but we're going to confirm the obvious - this car has two motors, one at the front axle, one at the rear. The all-wheel drive is fully variable too. Rear-axle steering is standard at an angle of up to 9 degrees.

The AMG EQS comes with a 400V battery with a usable energy content of 107.8 kWh. It can be charged at up to 200 kW DC (with a 300 km / 186-mile range topped up in 19 minutes) and up to 22 kW AC (11 kW standard, 22 kW as an option). The battery service life is rated at ten years or up to 250,000 kilometers (155,000 miles). You get three years of no basic charge for the Mercedes me Charge network, which comprises more than 500,000 AC and DC charging points in 31 countries, including over 200,000 in Europe. You also get one year of access to Ionity Unlimited for free.

Recuperation output is up to 300 kW, and you have three stages to pick from via switches on the steering wheel. Range is rated at 526-580 km (326-360 miles) WLTP.

On the outside this model has an AMG-specific black panel grille with hot-stamped vertical struts in chrome, an integrated Mercedes star, and AMG lettering (of course). The front apron has the hallmark AMG A-wing design, and it's painted in high-gloss black with chrome trim.

There's an obligatory AMG badge on the back too, unsurprisingly, a larger rear spoiler, AMG side sill panels in high-gloss black, a front splitter in high-gloss black with chrome trim and also flics and fins on the air intakes, with air curtains in high-gloss black with chrome trim, a rear apron in the color of the car with a diffuser with six longitudinal fins, and 21" or 22" AMG light-alloy wheels in two designs, all aerodynamically optimized.

On the inside you get AMG seats with man-made leather with microfiber, and, wait for it... red stitching! Or you can opt for nappa leather, with its own set of "AMG-specific seat graphics". AMG sport pedals? Check. AMG floor mats and door sill trims with illuminated AMG badges? Also check. The steering wheel is AMG-ified as well, with a flattened lower section, and perforated grip area.

The MBUX Hyperscreen comes as standard, with its three-display curved array that extends from A pillar to A pillar.

The AMG EQS is expected to go on sale next year. Pricing hasn't been announced yet, but obviously expect it to be more expensive than the vanilla, non-AMG EQS.
