Huawei Aito M7 photos and details confirm the company is to expand EV range

Huawei is expanding EV range with the Aito M7. Aito is a brand used by Huawei with the its first car M5 launching back in 2021 and now, not even a year later we have a second model - the M7. As the name suggests it is going to be a bigger car, using a very similar petrol-powered range extender to eliminate range anxiety.

It’s a large vehicle at 5020mm of length and 1945mm in width and 1775mm height. The weight stands at 2340kg.

The 1.5l 4 cylinder petrol generator can top up the battery. The capacity wasn't explicitly mentioned, but it's likely the same 40KWh pack as the M5. Pure electric range is only 150km but Aito claims a combined range to be 1195km for the smaller model - and can expect the M7 to come close.

Some photos surfaced showing the Aito M7 being tested in cold weather in China, we can clearly see where the panel is missing on the side, that the car has two charging sockets on the left. We have some shots of the interior as well showing clear lines, natural colors and materials and a big central screen with Harmony OS running the show. There are two wireless charging pads visible as well just below the screen.

Overall design is clean, almost conservative by today’s standards. We have nice, smooth lines running across the whole vehicle, rear lights wrap around and the tailgate is a one piece item similar to Audi Q5. The front grille is fairly large since it needs to provide cooling to the 1.5l range extender; small vertical air vents on the bumper complete the design.

It’s an interesting choice for Huawei and Aito to follow the range extender strategy but one that offers clear benefits. Aito is struggling to keep up with demand for the M5 and we see no reason why the M7 won't enjoy a similarly warm reception.
