Tata Avinya adds 310 miles of range in 30 minutes

Tata managed to surprise the world with the unveiling of the Avinya, a futuristic looking concept car that clearly shows the Indian automaker has serious ambitions when it comes to the EV market. Following the trend set by Audi we are presented with a vehicle with all wheels pushed out far to the corners, doors opening wide to reveal interior without a B pillar and with seats swivelling around to create passenger friendly interior.

Front and rear lights make up the company logo with the front fascia covered in LEDs, we notice side mirrors replaced with cameras and there’s no getting away from the size of the wheels - they are as big as they get, it’s time to get used to 23s, ladies and gents. According to Tata, the Avinya - which by the way means “innovation” in Sanskrit - is built on a bespoke, EV dedicated platform, with a battery being able to charge in 30 minutes to give 500 km of range. What type and size of the battery it is we don’t know, Tata didn't say.

The interior is where we can spot the biggest - or the smallest if you like - difference: there is no central screen! Bucking the global trends, Tata decided to do away with a large screen and replaced it with a small one sitting atop the steering column, right where the driver will need it most. Quite a brave decision from Tata and refreshing one as well, the cabin looks immediately so much bigger and lighter with focus being put on what’s outside. Whether this idea materializes or not - time will tell. Tata plans to have the vehicle in production by 2025 - we say bring it on!

Looks gorgeous. If they sell in Europe i would like to own one. Compared to a competition with huge screens, giant monitors and many else things which makes interior smaller this one is very refreshing.

But there's always hope, right? Some manufacturers are bit more brave and bring stunning cars to the market - Hyundai Ioniq 5 was a surprise, it still looks like a prototype, Honda E - they actually did it.... As for the B pillar - BMW i3 says o...

I like a lot the clean look, we'll see in 2025 ! In the past they launch few model here in Belgium/EU, I Wonder if they will come back with EVs!
