Chevrolet Blazer Super Sport EV first official photo

Max McDee, 13 June 2022

Mary Barra, the CEO of Chevrolet, released the first official photo of the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV. If that wasn’t enough she confirmed the official launch date - July 18. The model in the photo released on Twitter is the SS or Super Sport - no more guessing, we are having a performance version of the Blazer.

Blazer EV was first introduced in January alongside the Silverado EV and Equinox EV. The new EV from Chevrolet will be based on GM’s Ultium platform which is spanning several models from the GM family - Cadillac, Buick, GMC and Chevrolet have a lot of EVs in the pipeline all sharing the same architecture.

What can we expect performance wise from the Blazer EV? We have a good idea since it is sharing its underpinnings with Cadillac Lyriq. The base model of Blazer EV will come with a 100 kWH battery pack and single motor running the rear axle. We can expect the same output as in the Lyriq which is 255kW or 340 hp. The range should be similar as well at around 500 km.

The Chevrolet Blazer in the photo is wearing the red SS badge which was always reserved for the most powerful versions and it’s not just a marketing exercise - the Super Sport will have two motors and all-wheel-drive setup with 368 kW or 500 hp and it will use the same battery with 100 kWh of usable capacity. The range will be significantly lower compared to a single motor model but the performance will be worthy of the SS badge.

We don’t have to wait much longer, July 18 is just around the corner and we are pretty sure there will be more leaks springing all over the Internet - now that the cat is out of the bag we can expect to have all the details confirmed pretty soon.
