Cupra is thinking about entering the US market next

Vlad, 21 July 2022

Cupra, the VW-owned car brand born out of Seat in Spain, is currently in the process of entering the Australian car market, where its models will be sold starting later this year.

Asked about plans for the future once that happens, Cupra CEO Wayne Griffiths confirmed that the brand is looking at other new markets to enter in the next phase of its international expansion. And the most seriously considered and analyzed is North America.

On the other hand, Cupra doesn't think going to China makes much sense right now, what with the VW group having a strong presence over there with Audi, VW, and Skoda. In fact, Mr. Griffiths said Cupra has "more priority for the US" than China.

He went on to say that Cupra wants "to do emotional, sexy cars that are fun to drive in an electrified world". The first all-electric model from the brand is the Cupra Born, and more will follow.

I don't want VW to disappear, just to make better cars. This thing will not sell in the US...
