Huawei's AITO M5 car with HarmonyOS on board starts shipping

Ro, 07 March 2022

Huawei's first electric car called AITO M5 (Added Intelligence to Auto) was announced back in December and got official pricing last month. Now, the company has started shipping the car to select dealerships to fulfill pre-orders. The medium-sized SUV received 6,500 pre-orders in the first 4 days of the campaign alone and while we don't have a final number there's clearly no shortage of interest.

The car will be powered by Huawei's HarmonyOS and the standard 272 hp (203 kW) version with a rear-wheel-drive starts at CNY 249,800 ($39,500), the all-wheel-drive 428 hp (319 kW) asks CNY 279,800 ($44,200) and the flagship alteration 496 hp (370 kW) (again with four-wheel drive) is listed at CNY 319,800 ($50,500). Keep in mind that all those prices are after the government subsidies

The interesting bit about the AITO M5 is that it offers a 1.5-liter petrol-based range-extender. The 40 kWh battery alone can get you 150km, while a full tank for the extender pushes that beyond 1,100km.
