Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo is here to take you off-road fast and in style

Porsche has a new Taycan EV, and it's bigger and off-road-ier than the initial model. Meet the Taycan Cross Turismo. An estate (but don't call it that), although it's got adaptive air suspension for "uncompromising dynamics off-road", 36mm (1.4 inches) more headroom for the rear passengers, and a total load capacity at the rear of 1,200l (42 cu ft) with the rear seats folded. So like an electric Porsche version of the Audi Allroad Quattro idea.

It uses the same 800V architecture as the non-Cross Turismo Taycan, and it fits a 93.4 kWh battery on all four variants that are launching now. This supports 11 kW AC charging by default, or 22 kW if you pay more for an optional extra. Charging via the fastest supported DC chargers (270 kW) will give you 100 km (62 miles) of range in 5 minutes, or let you go from 5% to 80% in 23 minutes.

The entry-level model is the Taycan 4 Cross Turismo, which makes 280 kW (380 PS) of power and can "overboost" for launch control up to 350 kW (476 PS), for a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time of 5.1 seconds. It has a top speed of 220 km/h (136 mph), and a range in the WLTP cycle of 389 - 456 km (241 - 283 miles).

Then we have the Taycan 4S Cross Turismo, with 360 kW (490 PS) of power, overboost to 420 kW (571 PS), 0-100 km/h in 4.1 seconds, a top speed of 240 km/h (149 mph), and a WLTP range of 388 - 452 km (241 - 280 miles).

The Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo makes do with 460 kW (625 PS) of power, can overboost that to 500 kW (680 PS) for launch control, accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 3.3 seconds, has a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph), and a WLTP range of 395 - 452 km (245 - 280 miles).

Finally, the Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo has the same power numbers as the Turbo, but can overboost higher to 560 kW (761 PS) for a 0-100 km/h time of 2.9 seconds. The top speed is the same too, but the WLTP range is slightly different: 388 -419 km (241 - 260 miles).

All models have all-wheel drive and an optional Off-Road package will increase ground clearance by up to 3cm (1.18 inches) to let the car also be driven "on demanding off-road terrain". Something called Gravel Mode is fitted as standard and improves driving on rough roads.

On the inside, you get a familiar design if you've ever seen the vanilla Taycan, with wing-shaped upper and lower sections of the dashboard, that stretch across the entire width of the car. There's a free-standing, curved instrument cluster, a central 10.9-inch infotainment display, and an optional front passenger display too which combine in a glass band in a black-panel look.

The Taycan 4 Cross Turismo and Taycan 4S Cross Turismo have 446l (15.7 cu ft) of space in the boot/trunk, that grows to 1,212l (42.8 cu ft) with the rear seats folded. The Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo and Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo have 405l (14.3 cu ft) of trunk/boot space, that grows to 1,171l (41.3 cu ft) with the rear seats folded.

The Taycan Cross Turismo line will become available in the summer.
