Volkswagen previously stated that it would start selling only EVs by 2035, but the company's CEO Thomas Schäfer now said the company will be ready with the transition by 2033. In a recent interview he gave for Automotive News he outlined some interesting bits about VW's strategy going forward.

The CEO specified that the new deadline only applies to the European market and that by 2026, the company will expand its EV lineup quite a bit. Ten completely new models are expected from the VW group, some under Seat, Cupra and Skoda brands. As of now, the ID.3, ID.4, ID.5 and ID.Buzz are the only fully-electric vehicles in VW's portfolio. The company now plans to introduce a compact crossover and small electric hatchback, likely called ID1 and ID2. An electric alternative to Passat is also in the pipeline.

In that same interview, the company's CEO confirmed an ID3 facelift is coming next year. However, he assured that this would be more than just your average facelift with a new bumper. The new ID.3 will have a complete design overhaul with new materials and improved stability to various vehicle systems. Volkswagen wants to right the wrongs of the current ID.3 and deliver a better product to customers.
