Bosch will service and repair Sono Sion solar EV in Europe

Max McDee, 11 November 2022

Sono Motors just secured cooperation with Bosch, which will provide servicing and repairs for Sion, the solar electric car. Owners of Sion will be able to use the Bosch Car Service network throughout Europe with all maintenance, repairs and warranty work undertaken by highly trained and experienced technicians.

First 50 locations will become available across Germany with the chosen service centers covering major cities and rural areas. After this first phase is completed, Bosch will roll out training to further service stations to eventually have a complete coverage across Europe.

Bosch technicians will be trained by Sono Motors, after the comprehensive training technicians will be certified to perform all servicing and repair jobs on Sion. The training will cover repairs and servicing of the high-voltage systems, photovoltaics and safety systems.

Authorized Bosch Car Service stations will be easy to identify with “Sono Motors Service Partner” signs and their locations will be provided on Sono’s website to make sure customers can easily find them.

This is a huge step for Sono Motors and its first solar-electric car. Servicing and maintenance is probably one of the biggest stumbling blocks for all new brands as they take both time and substantial investments to develop. Securing cooperation with one of the biggest servicing networks in Europe almost instantly solves those.

A very clever move from the German start-up but securing the biggest servicing network in Europe is just part of the new business model Sono Motors is promoting. The company actually encourages customers to repair their own cars. That’s right - when you buy Sion you will be given access to tutorials showing you how to perform basic maintenance and repairs on your own car.

That’s a refreshing approach, if the weather is nice you can do all the work required outdoors while your car is soaking up the electrons from the sun and charging up its batteries absolutely free of charge. And you won’t be threatened with losing your warranty for changing broken light bulbs - it’s a win-win scenario.
