Xiaomi ramps up SU7 production, offers lucrative salaries to acquire more workers
Demand surges for Xiaomi's SU7 model. And trying to keep up with its fast-growing order book, Xiaomi is doing all it can to ramp up production. The company is now looking for new factory workers, offering attractive salaries and bonuses, while also asking existing employees to extend working hours.
The Xiaomi EV factory in China is looking to hire a substantial number of workers, promising monthly salaries of up to RMB 10,000 ($1,380), a considerable sum in the local context. To sweeten the deal, a bonus equivalent to one month's salary awaits employees at the end of the year.
Curentlly unconfirmed reports claim that workers at the factory are putting in 10-11 hours a day, six days a week. This has raised concerns about working conditions, even as the financial incentives remain enticing.
Xiaomi launched the SU7 in March, offering three variants starting at RMB 215,900 ($29,800). Deliveries commenced in April and May, with the company setting ambitious targets of 100,000 to 120,000 units for the year. May saw 8,646 SU7 EVs delivered, showing that the company is well on track to achieve it.
Still, wait times currently exceee 30 weeks for certain models. Xiaomi management remains optimistic, stating that the factory will transition to double-shift production this month, aiming to deliver at least 10,000 units in June alone.
