Is this the next compact electric crossover from Cadillac?
There is no stopping Cadillac now, the company has found its new wings and it is literally taking off. The Lyriq sales had a bit of a bumpy start with the recent software issues locking out the center screen but otherwise the car has been an absolute runaway train of success. Celestiq with its outrageous price and even more outrageous personalization services apparently has a long waiting list of customers already.
Hot on the heels of its two larger siblings is, what appears to be at least, a smaller compact-sized crossover. A teaser image was released by the GM design team on Instagram, drawn up by Jason Chen, the car is clearly a Cadillac and it represents a CUV according to the description. CUV stands for Crossover Utility Vehicle.
It’s a shame we have only one image but it is enough to get our imagination going. It is unmistakably a Cadillac, it is shorter and lower than the Lyriq and it has an amazing roofline, almost like a coupe mixed with a shooting break. Of course, this is just a drawing but all we need is to look at the Celestiq to realize, Cadillac loves adventurous designs.
The fact that GMC is looking at releasing its own compact crossover only adds oil to this flame, it makes sense for Cadillac to develop its own at the same time. After all, both the cars will share the Ultium architecture and the powertrains. Chevrolet Equinox EV will be the base vehicle for both the Cadillac and GMC.
Are we going to see a compact crossover from cadillac? Absolutely yes, there is no doubt that Cadillac will release a smaller model in its luxury range. Will it be any time soon? Absolutely not. The company is busy ramping up the production of Lyriq and ironing out all the initial wrinkles. Once the production is at its capacity, you can bet your bottom dollar the electric CUV from Cadillac will make its appearance.
