The new MG4 EV XPOWER is a budget-friendly supercar slayer

MG Motor just unveiled its MG4 EV XPOWER, an all-electric high-performance hatchback, with the car set to debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Not only is this the brand's most potent production car yet, but it also promises to keep the company's line of high-value electric vehicles. And the MG4 XPOWER is just a start, the MG Cyberster is coming next.

Priced starting from $45,100, the MG4 XPOWER model promises superior dynamics to the regular MG4 and the numbers certainly back that up. Let that sink in for a moment - a 429 hp AWD hatchback capable of running circles around many high-performance vehicles for about as much as the new electric Fiat 600e La Prima?

Boasting a dual motor powertrain that produces 429 hp (435 PS) and up to 443 lb-ft of torque, the MG4 EV XPOWER sits comfortably amongst the fiercest high-performance hatchbacks. It accelerates from 0- 62 mph in a stunning 3.8 seconds, outpacing most gas-powered and many electric performance cars. 3.8 seconds is what many expensive supercars struggle with - this is an affordable family hatchback.

The car manages this impressive performance while maintaining an understated exterior design, a welcomed contrast to the often flashy appearance of similar hatchbacks. That’s unless you go for the bright orange paintwork - it’s bright enough to compete with any Lambo out there.

Design features include distinctive orange 'XPOWER' brake calipers, a black roof for a two-tone finish, polished trim accents, and new 18-inch alloy wheels. There's also an exclusive new Racing Green color option available.

MG's Commercial Director, Guy Pigounakis, expressed confidence that the MG4 XPOWER would disrupt the market. He highlights that this model is a perfect combination of affordability, practicality, and exhilarating driving experience. While it's a performance beast, the XPOWER also retains the comprehensive technology and practicality that have won the MG4 range numerous accolades.

The MG4 XPOWER's muscularity comes from its unique dual motor configuration, delivering up to 320kW to all four wheels. The all-new Dynamic Cornering Control System, a first for MG, includes a locking electronic differential and Intelligent Motor Control to allow torque vectoring between all four wheels. This feature helps the car maintain traction and composure in various driving conditions.

Not to be overlooked are the comprehensive suspension upgrades that have been carried out on the model. These modifications include recalibrated spring and damper tuning, stiffer anti-roll bars, and improved steering. The MG4 XPOWER is expected to outshine its predecessors, offering a firm, responsive ride thanks to an increase in overall suspension stiffness by up to 25%.

Braking capabilities are also a high point for this new EV, with the stopping distance from 62-0 mph being a mere 1,334.6 inches. This impressive braking power is helped by premium Bridgestone Turanza tires that provide excellent grip while still maintaining rolling efficiency.

In addition to the MG4 EV XPOWER, MG also plans to reveal the Cyberster and a unique concept, the EX4, at the Goodwood Festival. The EX4 concept is a bold reinvention of the 1980s Metro 6R4 rally legend, powered by the XPOWER's electric drivetrain, marking the 40th anniversary of the Metro 6R4.

With these new models, MG is finally offering thrilling, high-performance options that could very well give not only the traditional gas guzzlers a run for their money but put many electric cars on notice. Pay attention, Abarth 500e.
