BMW adds more range to i5 and i5 Touring with Spring 2025 update
BMW unveiled a number of changes and upgrades coming to its model range in the spring of 2025. The 5 series is getting a new interior kit as standard, the 2 series gets a new powertrain, the X3 gets a six-cylinder diesel, and hybrid models get faster charging rates, but what we care about is the increased range of the BMW i5 and i5 Touring.
The BMW i5 and i5 Touring's WLTP range will increase by up to 29 miles (depending on model and configuration) thanks to technical advancements and component optimization.
The range increase is partly due to the first-ever use of silicon carbide semiconductor components in the i5's power electronics (SiC converter). The other part is component optimization—new low-rolling-resistance tires, aerodynamic alloy wheels, and even optimized wheel bearings.
Thanks to those advancements, the BMW i5 xDrive40's WLTP energy consumption is down by 9%, while the eDrive40 saves up to 8%.
Meanwhile, with the spring 2025 upgrade, the i5 M60 xDrive now includes the M Sport package Pro - a cosmetic upgrade that increases the car's presence rather than its performance (though it does come with 20-inch wheels).
