Buick shows the interior of Electra E5 for the first time
Buick Electra E5 is the first electric vehicle from the brand based on the Ultium architecture from GM. Unfortunately Electra E5 is, at least for now, only to be available in China in the next couple of months.
The Electra E5 was unveiled last year but this is the first time we see photos of the interior. As far as the interiors of current electric cars from this segment go, it is fairly standard. It’s plush and full of premium materials, all tactile surfaces are upholstered and the seats look super comfortable. But it is the center screen that simply steals the show.
This 30-inch wide continuous slab of OLED beauty is the largest we have seen. Mercedes EQS and EQE can hide with their “single” but actually triple-screen behind a single pane of glass. This 6K curved screen can display 1 billion colors and comes with Buick’s latest Virtual Cockpit System that combined with the 12.6-inch color HUD offers a completely new experience.
The Buick Electra E5 is full of the latest tech, Wireless CarPlay is onboard with wireless phone charging. The iKey feature lets owners use their phone as the key and it offers remote vehicle diagnostics as well. The Bose Audio system is standard and so is the BioCare cabin air purifying system.
The Virtual Cockpit system runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8155 and is supported by VIP electronic architecture. 5G connectivity is built in and of course OTA updates are available for multiple modules at the same time.
According to Buick, the 2.9 meter wheelbase affords the Electra E5 over 1 meter of legroom at the back. The trunk is not compromised either and the company quotes its capacity as 1,658 liters but that’s with the rear seats down.
There is no denying, Buick Electra E5 is one good looking electric SUV. The interior matches the classy exterior and the technology seems to be top notch. It is a real shame that Buick has no intention of bringing this vehicle to other markets.
