GAC Aion RT unveiled in China

Chinese automaker GAC Aion (the same company that makes the Aion Hyper SSR and Aion Hyper GT) just lifted the courtain off its latest offering. The Aion RT is a sleek electric sedan promising very good range numbers.

The Aion RT sports a low-drag fastback silhouette designed to minimize wind resistance and optimize energy efficiency. The expansive 137.01 inches panoramic sunroof literally bathes the interior in natural light, creating an airy and spacious feel.

Measuring 191.5 inches long, 73.8 inches wide, and 59.8 inches tall, the Aion RT has a wheelbase of 109.3 inches. The car rides on either 215/55 R17 or 235/45 R18 tires, with eye-catching rim designs adding to its visual appeal.

GAC Aion claims to use corrosion-resistant and scratch-resistant paint, promising that the car's exterior will stand the test of time.

The Aion RT comes equipped with 126-line LiDAR and 27 different sensors, providing a wealth of data for its advanced driver assistance systems. The powerful NVIDIA Orin-X platform processes all this information, allowing the RT to handle a variety of driving scenarios, even without high-precision maps. The company claims the ADAS system can navigate roundabouts, construction zones, and other challenging road conditions, and of course, OTA updates will keep improving the system fresh for many years to come.

Initially, the Aion RT will be offered with a single electric motor producing either 150 kW (201 hp) or 165 kW (221 hp). Power is drawn from a CATL-supplied lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery pack, which enables a claimed cruising range of 404 miles. Charging from 30% to 80% takes 30 minutes.

Inside you find a round steering wheel, a digital instrument cluster and a floating central control screen. The center console houses wireless charging pads, and rear passengers also enjoy dedicated air conditioning vents.
