Huawei's new Luxeed S7 smart EV goes on pre-order

The highly anticipated refresh of the Luxeed S7, developed by Huawei and Changan Automobile, has officially arrived at over 300 dealerships throughout China.

The official performance figures for the Luxeed S7 haven't been released yet, but it's powered by Huawei's DriveONE platform, which was used in the previous model. That means 800V and either single or dual-motor setup. The AWD version generates 489 horsepower and should deliver 0 to 62 mph sprint time of just over 3 seconds. The single-motor version has 288 horsepower on tap, and it still delivers respectable acceleration of just over 5 seconds to 62 mph.

Interior of the S7 is a minimalist's dream. A large central touchscreen dominates the dashboard and is a control center for the car's many functions, including navigation, entertainment, and climate control. The traditional instrument cluster is replaced by another screen and drivers can use a heads-up display (HUD) for essential information.

Huawei's involvement is evident in the S7's advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). The car comes equipped with a vast array of sensors, cameras, radar, and optional LiDAR, enabling features like adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking. The S7 is the first mass-produced car to come with HarmonyOS 4, the latest iteration of Huawei's own operating system available for automotive.

The Luxeed S7 is now available for pre-sale in China, and deliveries are expected to begin in December. The starting price for the S7 Pro version is RMB 248,000 (approximately $34,300), while the S7 Max version starts at RMB 278,000 (approximately $38,500). The top-of-the-range S7 Ultra presale kicked off at RMB 328,000 ($45,400). While there's no official word on international availability, the S7's impressive features and competitive pricing could make it a tempting proposition for EV buyers worldwide.
