Hyundai reveals Elexio electric SUV, but you won't be able to get one

Hyundai's Chinese arm, the Beijing-Hyundai, has unveiled its first electric SUV, the Elexio. This brand-new vehicle was years in the making and will hit Chinese showrooms in the third quarter of this year.
The exterior of the Elexio is unlike any Hyundai from the Ioniq family. The daytime running lights draw inspiration from crystals and apparently incorporate the number eight, a symbol of good fortune in China. A continuous light bar across the front and an illuminated logo make the vehicle easily recognizable, and the front bumper features a strong, two-tone design.

Looking at the side, the Elexio has a powerful stance with layered lines and prominent wheel arches. Design highlights include a distinct diagonal shape on the rear pillar, sleek hidden door handles, and stylish 20-inch multi-spoke wheels. The rear of the vehicle mirrors the front with a continuous taillight design and a clean, uncluttered look.
The full details of the interior are yet to be revealed, but we expect a minimalist design. According to Hyundai, most physical buttons on the dashboard are gone.

Powering the Elexio's technology is a new Qualcomm 8295P chip. The infotainment system will support a range of features, including online navigation, entertainment options, smartphone connectivity, over-the-air software updates, voice interaction, and remote control capabilities.
The Elexio will come equipped with an L2+ ADAS that includes highway navigation assist. Beijing-Hyundai has plans to improve these automatic driving features over time, with the introduction of memory parking in 2025 and urban assisted driving functionality expected in 2026. These intelligent driving capabilities will be powered by Huawei's Harmony OS Intelligent Mobility solution.

Despite its distinct looks, the Elexio is built on Hyundai's Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the same platform used in Ioniq and Kia vehicles. This allows the Elexio to achieve an impressive driving range of over 435 miles on a single charge, although that number is just an estimate calculated with the notoriously optimistic CLTC standards. The Elexio supports fast charging, allowing the battery to be replenished from 30% to 80% in just 27 minutes.
