International version of GAC Aion Hyper SSR enters production, gets renamed
The GAC Aion sub-brand Hyper has been rebranded to Hyptec in preparation for its global debut. The first international models rolled off the production line on August 1 and are set to hit Southeast Asian markets later this month. Following a showcase at the Paris auto show last year, it intends to introduce the SSR to the Middle East, South America, and Europe.
The international plans follow the SSR's successful debut at the Bangkok auto show in April, where it garnered over a dozen pre-orders. Originally launched in China in September 2022, the SSR is a two-seater electric supercar that started deliveries to Chinese buyers taking place in October 2023.
The entry-level Hyptec SSR can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 2.3 seconds, while the two higher-tier variants achieve this feat in a mere 1.9 seconds. The starting price for the Chinese market is RMB 1,286,000 (nearly $178,000), which is a proper bargain considering the specs.
While GAC Aion's sales have experienced a slight dip this year, the company remains optimistic about its global expansion plans. The new Hyptec name is supposed to mean "Hyper Technology Life." Hyptec head Gu Huinan believes that the SSR's global appeal will contribute to the brand's growth and revitalize GAC Aion's sales figures.
Hyptec's venture into the global market with the SSR is a significant step, both for the company and the wider industry, potentially setting a new benchmark for performance and luxury in electric supercars.
