Jeep Wrangler Magneto will go from 0 to 60 mph in 2 seconds

Last year Jeep unveiled the prototype of the EV version of the world famous Wrangler called Magneto. It seems Jeep felt it wasn’t good enough and this year it upped the ante - cue Jeep Wrangler Magneto 2.0.

The revised prototype comes with 625hp and 850 lb-ft of torque. How the Jeep arrived at that figure is quite interesting. In electric motors torque depends on current, the simplest way for more torque - increase current. So Jeep doubled the amps compared to last year’s prototype and the result is quite astonishing - the claimed 2.0 seconds from 0 to 60mph is a Tesla S Plaid territory and we can only hope that Jeep goes ahead and releases this beauty at some point so the public can put it to the test. Never mind Tesla, imagine Wrangler on 40” tyres smoking pretty much any ICE supercar. And there aren't many cars that you can take straight from the dragstrip to rock climbing or dune hopping.

If that wasn’t enough to get your attention the Magneto comes with a manual gearbox. 6 speed manual gearbox. Our guess is that you reach 60 mph without needing to change any gears though - otherwise we’d need superhuman gear changing skills. So - 6 speed manual with first gear running 3.36 ratio, maximum power available for 10 seconds - have we got a factory 9 second quarter mile EV on the cards? Let’s hope it’ll come with a box of spare drive shafts and CV joints because it might need them.

Jeep had to extend the wheelbase of the Magneto by 12 inches - that’s 30cm - in order to fit the new lithium-ion battery packs. It has 4 of those but Jeep kept quiet about the range of the Magneto 2.0. What we do know is that the prototype is equipped with Dynatrac Pro-Rock front and rear axles and 40” tyres. We pray to Gods of electric cars that Jeep delivers this one to us, we even asked Santa for it and we promised to be really really good.

That kind of acceleration on a Jeep like this is totally safe!
