Tesla Model 3 and Model Y officially launched in Thailand

Thailand is one of those markets where cars are excruciatingly expensive thanks to import duties and local taxes. Tesla hasn't officially sold its cars in the country but despite that there are plenty of them on the roads, even the Bangkok Police Department has a fleet of Model 3 vehicles since 2020.

Tesla decided it was time to fix this situation and officially launched both the Model 3 and Model Y in Thailand with prices most likely to undercut the private importers. Model 3 in its base RWD specification starts at around $50,730 at current exchange rates, while the Model Y RWD starts at $56,500.

Model 3 Long Range is available to order as well at $57,654 and the Performance version comes in at $66,595. The same is with the Model Y - Long Range starts at $65,153 and the Performance starts at $72,363.

Although the prices are about $10,000 higher than they are in the US, they are considered reasonable for the Thai market. Entry-level BMW 5 Series start at just over $85,000 in Thailand while in the US the same car costs $54,000 - quite a difference.

Interestingly enough, the standard color for both Model 3 and Model Y in Thailand is Solid Black. While US and European customers get the standard option as White, that color is an optional extra in Thailand.

There is no word yet on delivery schedules but those shouldn’t take too long. Thailand is a much shorter distance from Giga Shanghai than Europe and with Tesla sales calming down in China, the company will make sure it delivers its cars to a new market without any delays.
