Tesla Semi renderings are now available in Tesla iOS app
In less than two weeks Tesla will deliver the first Semi to Pepsi at an official event at the Giga Nevada. As the preparations for first deliveries advance, the company updated its Tesla app with detailed images of Semi although for now those images are hidden. Yet the clever people at TeslaApp Update extracted them from the updated code, so we can have a detailed look at the upcoming truck.
Few things stand out straight away - a pair of giant mirrors instead of swanky cameras are quite a departure from the original design. Interestingly enough, the two big screens sitting either side of the steering wheel are still in place meaning the rear-view cameras may still be available and it’s all down to local regulations and not the design itself.
The front windows appear to ajar rather than roll down, just like the little triangular windows did back in the day in our parent’s cars. The door windows appear to be fixed and both doors open towards the front of the truck - the “suicide” way.
The driver’s console is on the right as we have seen it before and there’s a jump-seat just behind the driver on the right. The left side is left completely clear. The biggest surprise is the frunk - big enough to hold the beefy charging cables, emergency gear and some basic tools.
The cab in the renderings is the standard size without a sleeping compartment - not sure if there will be one to begin with. Looking from the back we can notice the fairing on both sides of the cab extends quite far and as a result there is plenty of covered storage behind the cab.
Giga Nevada is ramping up the production with a target of 20 trucks per week initially with a goal to reach 2,000 trucks per week by 2025. Tesla hopes it can reach half the capacity next year, but it remains to be seen if it will make it.
It is less than two weeks before the big launch event and as usual we can expect Tesla to put on a big show. We sure will follow all the updates in a quiet hope that Tesla drops more clues and maybe a teaser of the Roadster during the show.
