Tesla's new software update improves charging efficiency

Tesla has started sending out a new software update to its cars, labeled 2022.40.1. It's currently rolling out, and it comes with a bunch of various enhancements here and there.

Perhaps the most important is a promised improvement of charging efficiency, both while using a Tesla Supercharger as well as other, non-Tesla DC fast chargers. It's all because the company has updated the thermal controls to account for each charging station's power output.

Tesla says:

During DC fast charging, the thermal system controls have been optimized for each charging station’s power capability, improving both charging and on-route battery preconditioning efficiency. This results in fast charge time and reduced energy costs.

So, on paper at least, you get faster charging and lower energy costs. Who wouldn't want that combo? Next up, the company added a Driver Door Unlock Mode toggle - if enabled, it lets you press and hold the lock button on the driver's door to unlock all the doors and open the trunk at the same time. If you only press the button once, it will unlock the driver's door and nothing else.

Moving on, you can now enable Sentry Mode and Dog Mode at the same time, and if you do so then the alarm sounds will be disabled, but you'll still be alerted if there's a potential issue. Sentry Mode still captures and saves video footage, it's just that the loud alarm won't go off scaring your dog.

Finally, the built-in media player can now show radio station logos, making it easier to find the one you're looking for.

As always, the software rollout is likely to take some time, which means that it may be a few days (or even weeks) before all vehicles everywhere get this one. But hang tight, it's on its way!
