The Ram 1500 REV is dead, long live the Ram 1500 REV

Ram was supposed to embrace electrification with two pickup trucks: the Ram 1500 REV and the Ramcharger EREV. The former is a fully electric vehicle with a battery and electric motors. The latter has an engine that acts as a generator for its 92kWh battery.

Today Ram has announced that it's canceling the Ram 1500 REV and it's renaming the Ramcharger as Ram 1500 REV. If you're confused, so are we - but we assume the point is to intentionally obfuscate that these used to be two vehicles and going forward there will just be one.

If you've heard of the Ram 1500 REV - and if you're into trucks, how could you not, Stellantis has been talking about it for years - then you'll see that it's still coming, pretty soon in fact. It's just not the truck that it was supposed to be - not purely electric but EREV.

As you may expect, the brand is blaming the fact that demand for full-size battery electric trucks is slowing in North America. RIP Ram 1500 REV, we hardly knew ye, and long live the new Ram 1500 REV, which isn't what we were promised.
