XPeng expands European footprint as P7+ deliveries start in France

Chinese EV manufacturer XPeng officially started deliveries of its P7+ liftback model in France. The company chose its flagship showroom in Paris to mark the occasion, where XPeng Vice Chairman and President Brian Gu personally handed over the keys to the country's first retail customer.

Expanding into France is a strategic step for the brand. To bypass complex import dynamics, XPeng builds the European versions of this large EV locally at the Magna Steyr manufacturing facility in Graz, Austria, where trial production originally concluded back in January 2026. The localized manufacturing strategy gives the car a distinct logistical footprint compared to its Chinese-built siblings.

French buyers can choose between three trim levels of the Xpeng P7+, which features generous exterior dimensions - it is 199.6 inches long, 76.3 inches wide, and 59.5 inches tall. Pricing reflects the premium positioning of the vehicle in Europe, starting well above the cost of the domestic version sold in the Chinese marketplace.

The entry-level model, known as the Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) Standard Range, carries a starting price of £39,220. The base variant has a single electric motor mounted on the rear axle that generates 180 kW (241 horsepower), with electricity supplied by a 61.7 kWh battery pack. This version has a driving range of 283 miles under the European WLTP testing cycle, and it accelerates from zero to 62 mph in 6.9 seconds.

For buyers who need more distance between charging stops, the RWD Long Range version is available at £42,630. This mid-tier variant comes with a stronger 230 kW (308 horsepower) rear motor and a larger 74.9 kWh battery pack. The upgrades increase the official WLTP driving range to 329 miles and drop the zero-to-62 mph acceleration time down to 6.2 seconds.

The flagship option for European drivers is the All-Wheel Drive (AWD) Performance variant, priced at £46,040. It pairs the same 74.9 kWh battery pack with dual motors to deliver a combined peak power output of 370 kW (496 horsepower). This setup cuts the zero-to-62 mph sprint time to 4.3 seconds, but the added weight and power draw result in a slightly lower range of 311 miles. Interestingly, Europe is the only market to get the AWD version since XPeng does not offer it in mainland China.

The price difference between regions highlights the cost of doing business in Europe. In its home market, the battery electric version (BEV) of the XPeng P7+ sells for between RMB 186,800 and RMB 208,800 (between £20,100 and £22,474). Chinese consumers also have access to an Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) powertrain configuration that is absent from the initial European lineup.

The push into Europe comes at a very important time for the company. Data from the China EV DataTracker shows that XPeng delivered 12,758 units of the P7+ liftback in China during the first four months of 2026, revealing that the domestic sales for the model have experienced a steady year-over-year decline since November 2025. Despite the cooling demand at home, production remains high; the company celebrated a milestone in January 2026 when the 100,000th P7+ rolled off the production line in China.

European deliveries offer XPeng a fresh avenue for volume. President Brian Gu noted during the Paris event that the company achieved a record overall monthly sales in May 2026. It won't be long now before we find out if European buyers will embrace the premium-priced Austrian liftback enough to reverse the model's downward trajectory in China.
