Yuanhang Y6 electric sedan breaks the 1,000 km range barrier

Yuanhang Auto, a high-end electric vehicle brand under the Dayun Group, unveiled its Y6 all-electric sedan on December 28. The price tag, ranging from RMB 329,800 to RMB 529,800 yuan (approximately $45,100 to $73,000), positions it as a contender in the upper echelons of the EV market. The selling point of the Y6 is its impressive 634 miles range.

Measuring at 207.5 inches/79 inches/59.1 inches with a wheelbase of 123.2 inches, the Y6 is not your average-sized sedan. It flaunts a grille-less design and a fastback silhouette complemented by frameless doors and through-type taillights. While it sounds and looks promising, the real question is whether these aesthetics are enough to turn heads in a market flooded with electric options.

The Y6 provides consumers with five models to choose from, offering two single-motor rear-wheel drive and three dual-motor four-wheel drive options. Rim sizes vary from 19 to 21 inches, accompanied by tire specifications of 245/55 R19, 265/40 R21, and 265/40 ZR21. The color palette includes green, gold, black, and white.

Inside, the Y6 boasts an interior available in green and beige, with a standout feature being the massive 17.38-inch central control screen powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon third-generation 8155 chip. The inclusion of a 70-inch AR-HUD, a 10.3-inch full LCD instrument panel, and a 27-speaker audio system certainly elevates the Y6's cabin experience.

The powertrain configurations, available in single-motor rear-wheel drive and dual-motor four-wheel drive, promise a top speed of 205 km/h. The acceleration figures are equally impressive, with the base rear-wheel-drive clocking 5.9 seconds from 0 to 62 mph and the four-wheel drive achieving a rather impressive 3.2 seconds.

Crucially, the Y6 is equipped with ternary lithium battery packs, offering three capacities and four cruising ranges. The standout top-of-the-range model boasts a jaw-dropping 634 miles range courtesy of its 150 kWh battery pack. The 100 kWh battery promises up to 503 miles range while the base model has the 88.42 kWh battery pack which can deliver as much as 447 miles of range in the RWD model. The Y6 supports fast charging, taking a mere 30 minutes to charge from 20% to 80%.

While the Yuanhang Y6 undeniably makes a bold entrance into the electric sedan market, skeptics might question whether it's all style and no substance. With a hefty price tag and a market saturated with compelling options, the Y6 has its work cut out. The Y6 becomes another option with a 150 kWh battery - not the first, but certainly not the last. 2024 is shaping up to be the year of the +620 miles range EVs and 150 kWh battery packs.
