AIM EV Sport 01 is a retro-modern electric coupe from GT-R creator
In the automotive world, when tradition intertwines with innovation, often remarkable is born. Such is the case with the AIM EV Sport 01. This futuristic, all-electric sports car conceptualized by AIM, a Japanese engineering entity with a strong footing in automotive design and technology, is gaining worldwide attention.
For those unaware, AIM is not a conventional name in the realm of vehicles, primarily because the EV Sport 01 marks its maiden venture into this field. Since its establishment in 1998, the company has operated behind the scenes, focusing on the engineering elements of automotive production. With the EV Sport 01, however, AIM leaps onto the stage, offering a striking vision of what an electric sports car can be.
The EV Sport 01, which saw its first public unveiling in April in Japan, turned quite a few heads with its modern elegance blended with classical influences. The car's charm inspired AIM to contemplate a limited series production run. Nevertheless, before any such plans take root, the EV Sport 01 is currently a field for extensive testing and evaluation.
The car's aesthetics aren't the only selling point; it houses AIM's advanced APM200 electric motor in a dual-motor setup, driving the rear wheels. Weighing just over 3,086 lb, the car is powered by two APM200 motors, contributing a combined output of 360 kW (483 hp) and a maximum torque of 546 lb-ft - less than the 600 hp quoted during launch event but still enough for a spirited drive. This dual-motor powertrain is coupled with a lithium battery pack with a capacity of 81 kWh, enabling an estimated travel distance of 186 miles.
Dimensionally, the EV Sport 01 is similar to a subcompact car at 153.5 inches, yet its width of 74.8 inches and height of just 47.2 inches set it apart, giving it a distinct presence. Its build consists of a multi-tubular aluminum frame chassis and a carbon fiber interior, embodying the blend of lightness and strength necessary for an electric sports car. It rides on 20-inch wheels, further enhancing its athletic stance.
When it comes to design, Shiro Nakamura, the acclaimed former chief designer at Nissan, takes the credit. Nakamura’s design legacy includes the Nissan GT-R, Cube, Leaf, and other iconic models. The EV Sport 01, under Nakamura's lead, is a great example of dynamism expressed through sophistication and simplicity, inspired by European and Japanese sports cars of the 1960s.
Nakamura, President of SN Design Platform, emphasizes that the EV Sport 01 design avoids over-complication. The aim was to capture the essence of past sports cars, breathing life into them with the advanced capabilities of today's electric vehicles.
In a fitting debut, the AIM EV Sport 01 will take to the stage at the Goodwood Festival of Speed later this month. As part of the "First Glance" category, this electric coupe will navigate the timed runs, offering spectators a glimpse into the promising future of electric sports cars.
The AIM EV Sport 01, an ingenious blend of traditional influence and modern technology, is a glimpse of what the future of electric sports cars might hold.

Lol. The design language is literally stolen from Alpine. It looks like a sleeker A110. Bruh...

2.3 miles per kWh? In a coupe?!?!?! That's like basically the same level of efficiency as a 90 kWh Mercedes electric van.
