Alfa Romeo Milano debuts with up to 240 hp, 54 kWh battery

Alfa Romeo's first EV finally became official today - meet the Milano, named after the city where the brand was founded in 1910, and meant to signify its electrically powered rebirth. You can already order one - the "Speciale" launch version, that is, which in Italy starts at €41,500. Alfa says it's offering "the sportiest and most exciting compact car to drive in the entire class". If you buy one you'll get access to over 600,000 charging stations built into the navigation system, and a wallbox charger for home.

There will be two drivetrain options, one developing 156 hp, the other going up to 240 hp. The former version has a quoted range of up to 255 miles. The battery capacity is 54 kWh for both, with up to 100 kW DC fast charging supported (and this takes 30 minutes to go from 10% to 80%). AC charging is supported at up to 11 kW.

The car is 164.2 inches long, 70.1 inches wide, and 59.1 inches tall, and, as you can see, comes with Alfa Romeo styling, which is expressed in the "balance of proportions, purity of lines, and attention to the quality of surfaces", according to the brand itself.

The Milano's "strong identity" is contributed to by the "legendary shield", the bold look of the front with "3+3 and adaptive Full LED Matrix headlights", and the "rich and harmonious reflections" created through "volumetric contrasts". Trunk capacity is 14.1 ft³.

Over on the inside, there is apparently a lot of "Italian attention to every detail" and "use of the finest materials", as well as placement of all the controls within the driver's reach. This is also evidenced by the "compact" steering wheel. The instrument panel has a "historical 'telescope' design" that "persuades you to wrap your hands around the steering wheel" and "make the best of a unique driving experience".

In the middle of the cluster there's a 10.25" TFT screen, and in the middle of the dash there's an additional 10.25" infotainment touchscreen which will work with customizable drag-and-drop widgets that every user can arrange to their very own liking. The air conditioning vents are in the shape of the four-leaf clover, "the symbol par excellence of Alfa Romeo sportiness".

New Milano will be built on the same assembly line as the Jeep Avenger, which makes sense since the two share many components. The Alfa is the most attractive cousin of the Jeep Avenger, Fiat 600e, and Citroen e-C4 family. The company promises a starting price of around $32,000 for the regular version in European markets.

The Milano is anticipated to arrive in showrooms by October.
