All-electric 2023 Ford E-Transit Custom has 380km of range

If you can remember, we posted an article a few weeks ago about Ford unveiling a new electric van, we thought it was going to be Tourneo Transit but we were in for a surprise. Ford brought a brand new E-Transit Custom that is just slightly smaller than the E-Transit. Well done Ford, you got us tricked.

The new design strikes immediately - narrow, squinted headlights with full width LED strip at the front are sitting above one of the biggest fake grilles in the industry. It looks like one of the BMW kidneys enlarged and turned on its side. In the middle of it we have a Ford logo which if removed in one piece, could comfortably serve as a dinner plate. That’s the lunch sorted. But seriously - despite the giant grill the van looks really handsome, a low front bumper with vents and the lights give it a dynamic look and we can’t imagine a driver that would be ashamed of driving it to work.

This has to be one of the largest grills out there...

Talking about driving, this is going to be a real pleasure. Since the Ford didn’t really release any technical details apart from the 380km (236 miles) range, we are going to assume the new E-Transit Custom will use the same powertrain and battery we have seen in the E-Transit. That means two power options - 181hp and 265hp - both powering rear wheels. Both putting down 431Nm (318lb-ft) of torque.

LED lights and bright blue line under its name

The 2023 E-Transit will be manufactured in Turkey at Ford Otosan facility, it will share production lines with the future VW Transporter and will go on sale some time next year. It will feature 12” center screen just like the E-Transit, it will support DC charging at up to 115kW and it will offer V2L charging with up to 2.3kW load - power tools, lights, even a little electric oven good enough for warming up lunch and making cup of tea can be plugged in to the van. This van ticks so many boxes that on paper it starts looking like a perfect vehicle - let’s wait and see if it can deliver.

Yeah it does sound weird but clearly Ford is planning it to be last mile city van where it's unlikely to do more than 250km in a day. They are focusing on cities because drivers there have no choice but to switch to electric - clear zones, parki...

115Kw Charging not enough.... these days... especially with "only" 380KM WLTP? range

380km? This is meant to be a transport van? you can hardly go to next city and back with that range.
