Hyundai Ioniq 5 is World car of the year 2022
We knew when we first saw the Ioniq 5, it was going to make some waves but we did not expect that, nor did Hyundai - we are pretty sure of that. The Ioniq 5 attended the New York Auto Show and walked away with the World Car of the Year award. It bested Kia EV6 and Ford Mustang Mach-E to secure victory.
It’s important to mention that for the very first time the World Car of the Year award in the global category went to an EV. It was no surprise that the Ioniq 5 also won the World Electric Car of the Year contest. Audi E-tron and Mercedes-Benz EQS were the other finalists.
And it gets better for the Hyundai Ioniq 5, which won the World Car Design award to make it a hat-trick. Other categories and winners were as follows:
World Urban Car won by Toyota Yaris Cross
World Luxury Car won by Mercedes-Benz EQS
World Performance Car won by Audi E-Tron GT
What a year for EVs, what a year for Hyundai. Congratulations!
