Global launch of BYD Denza Z9 GT set for September 20

BYD's luxury brand Denza is preparing for its upcoming global launch of the Z9 GT, a versatile EV that will be available in both plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and fully electric (BEV) configurations. Slated to debut on September 20th, the Z9 GT aims to challenge established players in the premium wagon segment with a blend of potent performance, lavish features, and competitive pricing.

The Z9 GT PHEV combines a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with three electric motors to generate an impressive 640 kW (858 hp), making it one of the most powerful hybrid vehicles on the market. This powertrain configuration offers a substantial range of 684 miles, and even when running solely on gasoline after battery depletion, it promises a fuel consumption rate of just 5.6 l per 62 miles.

The fully electric BEV version is even more powerful. Relying on three motors, it delivers 710 kW (952 hp) and promises a range of 391 miles. The battery variant sprints from 0 to 62 mph in 3.4 seconds, outpacing the PHEV's 3.6-second time.

Penned by renowned designer Wolfgang Egger, the Z9 GT sports a bold front grille and a sleek full-width rear light bar. With dimensions of 203.9 inches in length, 78.3 inches in width, and a wheelbase of 123 inches, it commands a more substantial presence on the road compared to rivals like the Porsche Panamera. Interestingly, the PHEV model extends slightly longer at 204.5 inches due to its more prominent bumpers.

The Z9 GT's tech-filled interior comes with a multitude of digital displays adorning the dashboard and door panels. A standout feature is the inclusion of dual refrigerators - a smaller one for front passengers and a larger one at the rear, capable of accommodating up to four wine bottles. Unfortunately, this added touch of luxury impacts trunk space and limits the ability to fold down the second-row seats.

Chinese customers can currently pre-order the Z9 GT in five different trims, with deliveries scheduled to commence in late September. Pricing for the Z9 GT starts at RMB 339,800 (approximately $47,750) and goes up to RMB 419,800 ($59,000). The Z9 GT will also enter European markets, where it hopes to disrupt the high-end segment.
