Leak reveals pricing and two more Xiaomi SU7 versions - Tesla Plaid challenger in tow

What better way to start a week than with a full specification reveal of the upcoming Xiaomi SU7. While we all thought the only thing left undiscovered was the pricing, Xiaomi managed to keep a few secrets close to its chest. It turns out there are not just 2 SU7 versions - there are 4. And if that wasn’t enough, one of those has clearly Tesla Model S Plaid in its sights - or possibly, in its rearview mirror. Let’s jump straight into the details.

According to the Chinese Weibo user who leaked the official-looking images of the SU7 specification, the range will start with the 299 hp (220 kW) single-motor version. This motor pumps up very respectable 295 lb-ft of torque and promises a rather brisk sprint from 0 to 62 mph in just 5.28 seconds. This is also the only version built on the 500V architecture - that means 15 minutes of charging results in 205 miles of range. Top speed is capped at 130 mph and the CLTC range of 415 miles, courtesy of its 73.6 kWh LFP battery, rounds up the technicalities.

The entry-level model’s infotainment is powered by a single Nvidia Orin chip, the car comes on 19” wheels and with a 15-speaker audio system. The optional equipment list is fairly long - HUD, LiDAR, air suspension with adjustable rear spoiler, Brembo brakes, and auto-close doors will require extra cash. Speaking of which - the entry-level SU7 starts at just over $30,000, making us weep and hope that one day Xiaomi will bring its first EV into other markets.

The next up in the lineup is the first surprise - the SU7 Pro. This is the first model to sport the 101 kWh Kirin battery (a modified Qilin battery from CATL) and the result is a quite staggering (even if optimistic) range estimate of 559 miles. This is still a single-motor vehicle but the power goes up to 374 hp (275 kW) and the torque has been upped to 323 lb-ft. The sprint to 62 mph drops to 4.68 s, making the Pro quite a spritely sedan.

But the big change is in the tech department. The Kirin battery runs on 871V architecture - that means a 15-minute DC charger session bumps up the range by 354 miles. The infotainment gets an additional Nvidia Orin chip and doubles its performance to 508 TOPS for that smooth buttery experience. The Brembo brakes are standard, cutting the braking distance from 62 mph to 1,311 inches. The car rides on the same 19” wheels, but this time it comes with Michelin tires, instead of Bridgestone from the cheaper model.

The optional equipment list is a little bit shorter - HUD and auto-close doors seem to be the only options left out of the standard equipment. LiDAR, a 25-speaker audio system, and air suspension are all included in a rather enticing price of RMB 259,000 - that’s just a smidgen under $36,000.

The next version up is the SU7 Max. We saw this version already - twin-motor, 673 hp powertrain with a combined 618 lb-ft of torque turns it into an electric rocket - 0 to 62 mph in 2.78 s points to a rather serious machine. The same Kirin battery promises 497 miles of range, the top speed is limited to 165 mph and 15 minutes of DC charging puts extra 317 miles of range into the battery pack.

The Max version rides on 20” wheels and Michelin tire combo, the equipment list is identical to the Pro version with the 56” HUD and auto-close doors making it to the standard list - in fact, there seems to be no optional equipment available for this model. All that comes at RMB 299,000 or $41,500 and makes this model very attractive and highly desirable.

But that’s not where the SU7 lineup ends. Xiaomi kept the secret rather well, and it turns out there’s one more version coming to the market. The SU7 FE rides on the same 871V architecture and is powered by the same Kirin battery - but packs a lot more punch.

The FE version is powered by electric motors with a combined output of 1,074 hp, or 770 kW. There are no details available yet if it’s a dual or tri-motor setup. The monstrous torque figure of 941 lb-ft translates to a 0 to 62 mph sprint in an internal organ-rearranging 1.98 seconds. Tesla Model S Plaid beater? At least on paper - it seems so.

The fastest SU7 FE rides on a 21” wheels and Michelin tires, it has a top speed of 186 mph, it can add 280 miles of range in a quick, 15-minute DC charging session and it has larger, 8-piston Brembo brakes stopping it in just 1,260 inches from 62 mph. You would probably expect this to cost in the vicinity of the Model S Plaid, but this is Xiaomi and the company left its gloves locked up and forgotten. The SU7 FE starts at RMB 339,000 or $47,000 - that’s less than half the price of the Tesla. Mic drop much?

Providing the leak is genuine - and there is no reason to doubt it - Xiaomi is turning the EV market on its head. Just as it did with the phones and pretty much every technology market it went into. High quality, high performance, and good value. The SU7 is one of the most anticipated EVs out there, and if the pricing is confirmed, the only thing for Xiaomi to worry about will be delivering orders on time.
