GAC Aion Y Plus is bigger version of Aion Y and starts at $24,800
For an electric car that starts at a smidgen under $25,000, the new GAC Aion Y Plus Executive has a lot to offer. Two new versions join the Aion Y portfolio - the Aion Y Plus 70 Executive Edition and the more expensive Aion Y Plus 80 Executive Edition with a sticker price of $28,000 (at current exchange rates).
With a 4.5 meters of length and a wheelbase of 2.75 meters, the Aion Y Plus is a rather compact SUV on the outside but it is inside that the car offers some clever options. The Executive Editions, although sound promising, add things like a non-full-size spare wheel, electric tailgate and electrically adjustable passenger seat. It adds a new brake-by-wire system and autonomous parking to make the car feel more “executive.”
The Aion Y Plus is 12.5 cm longer than standard Aion Y but interestingly, the wheelbase remains unchanged. The length is added mainly behind the rear wheels with a 10 cm stretch. Unusual but adds more room to the cargo area and since all the seats fold full flat, the car converts quickly into a rather comfy campervan for two.
Interior is clean and comfy, there are two screens with the main 14.3-inch responsible for the infotainment, the wireless phone charging is standard and the company is happy to point out the two cup holders in the center console - is this still optional in other markets? Well, Aion Y Plus has got two decently sized cup holders.
With its 150 kW electric motor that musters 225 Nm of torque to drive the front wheels, the car is more focused on range than performance, although it will feel rather nippy. The 70 Executive version comes with 63.98 kWh LFP battery and 510 km of claimed range. The dearer 80 Executive bumps the battery up to 76.8 kWh NMC pack with a claimed 610 km range.
