The system is the core feature of the new Lynk & Co 10 EV series, which launched last May in China. To make these EVs appealing to everyday consumers, the company priced the entry-level baseline variant at a highly competitive RMB 169,900 - roughly $25,000 - offering premium charging performance at a budget-friendly price point.

The actual charging speeds for the Lynk & Co 10 show exactly what this engineering leap means for drivers. Early baselines suggested the vehicle would need about nine minutes to charge from a 10% state of charge up to 70%. During certified testing, however, the car shattered those expectations - it completed the 10% to 70% replenishment cycle in just 4 minutes and 22 seconds. If a driver leaves the car plugged in for a total of 8 minutes and 42 seconds, the battery goes from 10% all the way to 97%.

For everyday drivers who prefer real-world distances over percentages, the math is incredibly simple. The fast charging adds around 1.2 miles of driving range for every single second the car is plugged into the grid. A short two-minute pit stop delivers enough energy to cover a normal daily commute, answering the main hesitation that car buyers express when thinking of switching away from gasoline vehicles.

The secret behind these charging times is the newly developed Aegis Gold Brick battery. It uses 900V architecture and short-blade lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) cells. Most fast-charging electric cars on the road today use 400V or 800V setups, but the higher voltage ceiling allows the Lynk & Co to safely draw massive electrical currents. During state validation testing supervised by the China Automotive Technology and Research Center, the battery pack drew a certified peak input of 1093 kW, crossing the elusive 1000 kW vehicle-side threshold.

Managing that much electrical current creates a serious thermodynamic challenge. Pumping more than 1000 kW into a battery pack generates intense heat. Chinese national regulations dictate that EV batteries must never exceed a strict limit of {{65ºC}} during operation to guarantee safety. Geely’s engineers apparently like to live on the edge, as real-world evaluation confirmed the cell architecture hit a peak temperature of {{64ºC}} during maximum power draw. Missing the legal limit by a single degree might look close, but the thermal management successfully shielded the internal chemical layers from corrosive acid formations and premature degradation.

To pull off this delicate thermal balancing act, Geely engineered an advanced cooling assembly. The primary system uses a dual-sided 3D liquid-cooling design that entirely surrounds individual battery cell groups with refrigerant. This increases the total available heat-exchange surface area by 100%, and cuts the thermal conduction path by 50%. Additionally, integrated management software scans the cells multiple times per second, altering active cooling flows to neutralize any hot spots before they can expand.

This clever tech puts Geely right in the middle of a fierce rivalry with BYD. BYD typically addresses fast charging by building massive, expensive 1500 kW external terminal stations to hit five-minute charging targets. Geely chose an entirely different path. Instead of focusing capital on building out hyper-powerful grid infrastructure, Geely prioritized vehicle-side acceptance metrics. This smart engineering focus maximizes real-world efficiency for the consumer without subjecting the battery cell structures to massive external thermal loads.

Fast charging typically ruins battery longevity, but the short-blade LFP chemical formulation proves remarkably resilient.
