Google Maps now offers better EV charging station navigation

Google Maps for Android and Android Auto got an important update today that will greatly benefit EV drivers in particular. The new features enable better navigation to EV charging stations and peace of mind when planning long trips.

Google Maps AI-generated descriptions

With the help of AI, Google Maps will provide more accurate instructions on how to find the EV charging points. An AI algorithm scrapes users' comments, which contain information about the charging point's exact location and how to get there. That should help you locate the charger in a multi-level parking lot, for example. The description may also contain additional information such as wait times, the type of plug supported, etc.

Real-time suggestions and planning long trips

While on the go, Google Maps will soon be able to suggest EV charging stations near you as you drive around, depending on the charging plug you use and how fast the charger is.

Google Maps can also plan long trips involving multiple stops along the way. The EV charging points will be suggested based on your vehicle's battery level, how fast the chargers can go and real-time port availability.

Sadly, there are too little data regarding charging infrastructure when it comes to Google Maps + you can't personally add a charger on a map and specify connectors, speed of charging, number of ports etc. Not to mention, you can't add in...

Google needs to start from better maps, as it's unreadable mess.
