You can now track Hyundai and Kia cars with Samsung's SmartThings
Samsung announced a strategic partnership with Hyundai and Kia with the SmartThings ecosystem earlier this year and now shared some more details about it. Future Hyundai and Kia cars will come with an infotainment system offering more advanced controls via a native SmartThings app and Samsung phone owners will enjoy a slew of neat features.
One of the best is the Find functionality. Even if the car's native location tracking isn't working for whatever reason, you can find your car using your Samsung Galaxy phone. The SmartThings app leverages Bluetooth LE mesh data from millions of Samsung smartphones and helps you locate a stolen or misplaced object, which, in this case, is your Hyundai or Kia vehicle.
Additionally, you can control your home appliances using the car's SmartThings app, while the Quick Panel on your Galaxy phone will give you fast and easy access to certain car functions, such as the AC. You can also keep track of your EV's battery status.
The three companies are also working on health-tracking features using the car's onboard cameras and sensors, while climate control features would optimize the environment for pets inside the car.
These features are still in the pipeline, but future Hyundai and Kia cars, and hopefully older ones, will get that deeper SmartThings integration.
