Hyundai Kona Mauna Loa is a limited off-road edition
If you like the Hyundai Kona but wish its looks were way more off-roady, you're in luck - sort of. The good news is that Hyundai has just launched exactly the car you've been waiting for in the Kona Mauna Loa (which is Earth's largest active volcano by both mass and volume, for what it's worth). The bad news? It's a Japan-only limited edition of 30. Yes, 30. Only 30 will be made.
That is a bit strange, matching the aesthetic here - it kind of looks like a half-camouflaged prototype with those bumpers and side skirts. Despite the appearance, they aren't stickers on top - the parts are actually sprayed with some special scratch-resistant paint that has a subdued shine.
Moving on, you get 205/65R16 tyres with matte black wheels, mudguards on all wheels, black weatherstripping, dark badges, and roof bars. On the inside, there are easy to clean floor mats and a rubber cargo mat. The exterior is painted in Mirage Green (the bits that aren't dark gray, of course), while the interior pairs green with neon yellow accents.
If you want, you can buy a folding chair and storage pockets to attach to the back of the front seats, along with two cargo box options.
The Kona Mauna Loa is priced at JPY 4.95 million, which equates to about $32,500. It's about $2,800 more expensive than the Kona Voyage trim it's based on.
