Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV unveiled
And just like that, Mercedes-Benz announced its ultra-luxury, all-electric SUV, the Maybach EQS SUV. It's essentially the standard EQS 580 SUV but with more luxurious cabin features and more power.
The Maybach EQS 680 SUV can be instantly recognized for its two-tone color finish. The car comes in five different combos, but a sixth one is expected sometime in the future. The 21-inch wheels come as a standard, but a 22-inch option will be available with that additional paint job.
Performance-wise, the Maybach version builds on the standard EQS SUV with 113 additional horsepower totaling 649hp and 949Nm of peak torque. We don't know the battery capacity, but it's probably safe to assume that two motors will be moving the wheels. According to the WLTP cycle, the vehicle will last 600km (373 mi) on a charge.
In addition to the Maybach emblems all around the body and the new paint jobs, the SUV changes its aerodynamic properties as well. Its drag coefficient is 0.29, which is worse than the original's EQS SUV's 0.26, but Mercedes says it's trying to reduce that to 0.28.
The front has changed from a whole piece to a grille-resembling one with straight vertical lines, Mercedes going for a more classic look. The bottom air intakes below the headlights get Maybach logos scattered all over them.
In addition to the already-known driving modes like Eco, Sport and Individual, the Maybach adds a Maybach mode that limits body roll and prioritizes comfort. It does so by adjusting the dampers, the throttle's response and the recuperation's smoothness.
New interior color options are also available, along with a wood trim option. Maybach's specific design appears on the digital gauge cluster as well as the iconic Hypoerscreen spanning across the dashboard.
Other premium features like Myabach-specific fragrance, Burmester 4D surround sound system, unique interior ambient light color options and expanded center console for the back seats, which are moved further back for extra legroom, are all on the menu.
Pricing and availability are still unknown, but we'll probably be hearing more in the near future.
