Mercedes EQS SUV sets foot in China, starts at $132,000

Ro, 22 February 2023

The Mercedes EQS SUV was released in August for the Western markets, and it's finally making its way to China. The company is now selling the EQS SUV in two versions in the country - the 450+ and the 450 4MATIC. The 580 4MATIC is not available at the moment and there's no mention of Mercedes' plans to offer it in China.

The entry-level 450+ version is asking CNY 910,500 ($132,000) while the 450 4MATIC is going for CNY 1,100,500 ($160,000). Both options have the same 360hp output, but the 4MATIC configuration has two motors. For context, the base variant is priced at $117,000 in Europe.

This is Mercedes' first SUV based on its own EVA platform and as of now, it's being imported into China. However, according to a recent report, the German automaker will start producing the EQS SUV locally, which would probably bring down the price a little.

The upcoming Maybach EQS SUV is also in the pipeline and some units will likely be produced in China too.
