MG celebrates 100th Anniversary with special edition Cyberster
The once-British-now-Chinese Morris Garages celebrates 100 years and the company decided the best to mark the milestone is to release a special edition of its latest EV. Say hello to the MG Cyberster 100.
Finished in the modern take on the classic Old English White with a matching burgundy soft-top and interior, this MG Cyberster will only be released in a limited (and numbered) 100 units. The vehicle starts at RMB 365,000 (equivalent to around $51,000).
The sporty convertible is powered by two electric motors with a combined output of 400 kW which is enough to catapult it from 0 to 62 miles. That’s until we realize this is CLTC estimated range meaning a significantly lower range in real-life conditions.
MG Cyberster was launched in November last year, initially, there were three versions available: Glamour Edition, Style Edition, and Pioneer Edition. Starting from RMB 319,800 ($44,500) for a single-motor version and going up all the way to RMB 359,800 ($50,000), the Cyberster deliveries began in the last week of November.
MG (Morris Garages) was set up in 1924 and it initially produced sporty and affordable cars that became popular for their performance and style. The company gained recognition through its involvement in motorsport and iconic models like the MG TC and MGB. Over the years, MG changed ownership and faced various challenges, but it has now been revitalized under Chinese ownership.
For the last few years, the company focused on affordable electric vehicles and it is becoming quite popular in Europe. The addition of Cyberster harks back to its origins but the “affordability” element is lost in the European market. The entry model starts at $70,000 while the top-of-the-range version comes with a sticker price of $81,000. While undoubtedly expensive, Cyberster is the only electric performance convertible on the market, and while the brand may not have all the clout, it attracts a lot of attention.
