Do you own or want to buy a Mercedes EQE or EQS but you’d like more power? No problem, for $1,200 a year, Mercedes will throw in up to 88hp extra.

Kupfernigk, 22 Nov 2022I assume that this applies to vehicles under warranty. If so it is not too wrong - increasing ... moreIf it decreases lifespan of the vehicle, said vehicle is clearly designed wrong ... I know it is Mercedes, and we probably know what reputation it has when it comes to reliability, but still, if it's warranty thing, it would be quite alarming for any potential customer.

I assume that this applies to vehicles under warranty. If so it is not too wrong - increasing power is likely to increase warranty costs. Battery degradation will be faster. If instead they said "You can do this to allow a higher maximum power but then your warranty is void unless you pay this much extra" it might make sense.
Whereas whoever heard of a heated seat wearing out?
Our EV has all the seats and the steering wheel heated from new and no nonsense.

well... this sucks! cars are supposed to be reliable. this might be the first step to having rediculuos subsriptions and ending up owned for companies to operate our lives! imagine, one day you can't travel using your car because you don't have enough credit in your "Mercedes" account or because you got banned for some reason!

You said it best in an article with the last sentence,we are giving away our ownership and in this direction the world is going. We we will own nothing.
What is also annoying that car manufacturers again with EVs give us almost no improvements in power department. Still alot of 150-200 HP cars, around 300 for better versions. You get the same in last decades with ICE cars,so no point in owning the newest one,you gain nothing, just a huge depritiation. With EVs, only Tesla gives us almost 500 HP car for cheap which is substantial difference. 500HP ICE is expensive and not alot of people could afford maintenance and the car itself.
But on the other hand, it is better that average guy gets in 500HP vehicle, especially EV with that crazy torque,at least in Europe. There will be alot of people getting injuried or dead in Europe.
And this subscription blackmailing will maybe work, but there would be car manufacturers that won't do that. And with EVs, there won't be that different of a car between manufacturers as is with ICE cars. Car with almost same performance, comfort, noise suppression, consumption will offer low end manufacturers as luxury ones. So no point in Mercedes, just for image.

Anonymous, 21 Nov 2022i see hackers already planning how to unlock full version car software. TBH, hackers would imply someone with a functioning brain actually cares for this type of vehicle :-D
But considering the usual state of car software and security, it will most likely be unlocked with some type of incredibly easy exploit.
up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A and Start

what will come next? you have to pay the price of the car plus the price for every single production part plus the assembly plus the emotional damage the assembly mechanic has to suffer from when assembling the parts.
