I mean, law differs in a lot of countries, but I feel like a lot of them had this rules applied.

That is massive difference to having to hold it to check something, which is big no for me. Important is to be able to leave it and get back to the same "place" when it is ok, which is often problem even in car's own infotainments...

I see too many people on the road with a working handsfree ... with phones in their hand. Not to mention siting on green lights reading their messages.

Don't have much of issue with having to place there phone every ride. And at least I am not limited to check messages when staying on red lights or by tons of other "safety" limitations in AA.

I don't understand Google not supporting YouTube and YouTube TV, their own products, with Android Auto. Why do users have to resort to side loading highly desired apps? Legal? I did see that Android Automotive will get YT, but not Auto...guess that's a win for a very small user base.

They will slowly reduce development of Waze and migrate its features to Google Maps and end Waze entirely in the longer term unfortunately.
It is already happening.
Most of Waze's developers have already been transferred to work on Google Maps.
All Waze will get is maintenance and bug fixes from now on pretty much. Not so much new features. Even if the Waze team comes up with a good idea for a feature, it will be rolled into G-Maps and not Waze.

If they would just stop AA from defaulting to maps then I will be happy. User should be able to choose the default app to launch when you get in your vehicle. I just drive around town and rarely use maps. Plexamp on the other hand, every drive. Gotta have my tunes.

Cool walk would be amazing if Waze would get their ish together and support it. I really don't understand why it wasn't rolled out at the same time considering Google owns them. Like, their engineers could have given the team access to the code and they'd be off and running.
Side note, they also need to bring back the dang temp next to the time! At least give us the option to show or hide it. Living in Texas is a mixed bag depending on time of year, season, month, week, day, minute, year and exact location you're currently in.

It certainly is a nice update, I am using the UI update for quite a some time and I really like it, but it still utterly struggles with languages as it often mixes up English and Czech transcription or search + you can't really customize it manually to help it.
It creates really "interesting" words when it tries to pronounce Czech words with English language and vice versa. A lot of those mistakes are certainly made by app developers like MS for Skype, but it would be nice if some of those standards were forced by Google as default and developers would have to abide them.
