According to Citroen's boss, they just don't make sense as EVs.

Roads are bad and continue to deteriorate in my area. Climate conditions worsening, with extremal amount of water making streets look as rivers, and lot of high snow so only with SUV you can still hope to reach the destination. To make things worse, too many city governments going out of mind installing too many too large bumps thinking that damaging the roads will decrease speeds. The result is SUV at a first step, then very big SUV, then almost electric tractor so the transport capability works in any weather and you can go confident over city bumps with allowed speed of 50km/h, which is impossible without SUV. So no any love nor anything special - just practical need to feel safe, after I hit the bottom and engine oil leaked out with my previous Opel Zafira. I think opposite, popularity of SUV will continue to increase as there is no hope roads will be fixed.

Citroën is most likely thinking the EU would push for some SUV regulation, which would be fine in my eyes, but that would hardly be a reality for quite a some time.
SUVs are immensely popular, even if their ICE version consumes a lot of fuel and EV counterparts are laughably inefficient.
Unless fuel and electric prices skyrockets even more, "no one" will try to deal with this issue - I will, but I bet I am a minority.
Citroën CEO is way too optimistic ... or pessimistic when it comes to energy crisis.

Trust me they don't make sense as gas cars either 😂

You've gotta be one special kind of fool to buy an SUV.

yalim, 13 Jan 2023citroen does not have a good market share in SUV market so,they can take such an action. howev... moreNothing to do with Citroen because they almost only have SUVs.
Same for Peugeot apart from 208 the other top models in sales are SUVs.

SUVs are selling good in the last 10 years and until now because they are mainly ICE models and their consumption are not too far from a sedan with more or less the same size and weight.

In this case they are right and the problem is already arise in some hybrids let alone completely electric.
The situation will be real when ICE models in SUVS start to disappear and the problem of lack of good aerodynamics and high weight of BEV put SUVs in lack of range or a huge amount of range difference compared to a sedan.
SUV form factor are inefficient and with batteries are even worst.
Hybrid SUVs already have problems starting in active security due to high weight.

Just look at this.

citroen does not have a good market share in SUV market so,they can take such an action. however, the overall market demand is not like this. I am not an SUV fan but,I cannot deny the practicality advantages. SUVs are easier to get in and out for women with skirts or elderly aged people. fetching kids in child seats is much easier in SUVs thanks to high roof and big rear doors. many people (not me) drive more comfortable with a higher seating position.it is easier to load/unload cargo thanks to flat trunk floor and wide trunk lid.
