Tesla's yoke is a dangerous mess, especially on roundabouts

Not many things can divide automotive fans as much as Tesla’s reinvention of the steering wheel. When the company first unveiled the new contraption the internet was set on fire. Two years after unveiling - what do we make of it now?

yoke is a total mistake and treat to public traffic. it can make not much difference when driving on highways but, the rest of the roads are full of surprises. drivers definitely need agility in sudden seconds and an uninterrupted grip is crucial for safety. the horn button is just trash.

tesla says, it is good for a better dashboard experience with no obstruction. drivers look to the dashboard 0.5% of the driving time maximum. a traditional steering wheel is more than enough to display every single information on a properly designed dashboard. always keep your eyes on the road, not the dashboard, not the yoke!

This whole fuss makes no sense Yoke or how its called or steering wheel.
Even if i plan to add a regular boat wheel onto my car who cares as long as it works???

Tesla's yoke steering wheel, which was introduced two years ago, is not a popular option for many Tesla owners. While the yoke has some positive aspects, such as not obstructing the driver's view and being a good fit for a fully functional FSD system, it has become clear that the FSD is not yet capable of unassisted maneuvering. This has resulted in the yoke being difficult to use, with many Tesla owners reporting issues with turning, parking, and operating indicators. The recent move by Tesla to offer a traditional round steering wheel to Plaid owners suggests that the company has made a mistake with the yoke implementation.

I have model x with yoke and I disagree with points made in the article. I don’t think the yoke is a problem. It is just different, and once you get used to it it it is fine. I don’t find myself doing hand over hand. I use the end knobs if I have to turn much. I drive a minimum of 12 roundabouts a day on my way to work in California and have no problem at all. The change lane/ turn button could be improved by having the left on the left side and the right on the right side or just making them more distinct somehow so they are easier to find, but I don’t use them while I am turning the yoke. I use them before I turn. This article is way over the top. I like like the yoke.

The idea is stupid. Only thing you can expect now is yoke wheels.

TBH, it feels good speaking of an issue and seeing it acknowledged as an issue later.
Hopefully, Tesla will provide a standard wheel for every customer that bought Yoke not knowing how badly it is implemented and release a fixed, Lexus inspired, solution in the future.
Edit: If I am not mistaken, even Prius uses a steer by wire solution, but that is probably just to boost comfort a bit.
