In addition to my comment that is currently under review by the mods, the Mirai gets about 71.7857 miles per kg of hydrogen. And according to some Quora guy, it takes around 48 kWh to produce a kg of hydrogen through electrolysis.

This is a sedan with the efficiency of a Hummer. 🤯

"Hydrogen, however, is a lot more expensive than gasoline. It costs about $14 per kilogram in California, the only place in the U.S. where you can currently find a refueling station. That means it costs $78 just to top off the Mirai’s 5.6-kg tank. If you go by the EPA’s 402-mile range estimate, the Mirai therefore costs about 19.5 cents to drive per mile."

I don't dislike Hydrogen powered cars, don't get me wrong. But my 2010 Ford Focus Sedan, an ICE car, costs me less than half as much per mile. Toyota over here is offering a car that costs more than a Tesla Model 3 up front, is way slower, (hell it's as slow as my old Focus) and costs multiple times more to drive.

Why? What's the point? Congrats Toyota on your Hydrogen car, but who the hell is meant to buy this thing?

Anonymous, 27 Mar 2023Really want to see hydrogen fuel cell EVs going mainstream. It's so much better than battery.Yeah, I would love to see that as well, BUT even if Mirai is pretty amazing and with this new software refresh it feels less ancient, it probably did not refresh the hydrogen tank packaging leaving this car still incredibly crammed inside and with really, really small boot.
It was a nice experience siting in this car, but it felt like driving a tank.
