GM to phase out Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in electric cars

General Motors decided that neither Apple CarPlay nor Android Auto are sufficient for its electric cars and is phasing them out in favor of different software.

Yes and No.. standard android app has to have support for Android Auto.. otherwise no.. and recently even Youtube music very own google app ... didnt get updates for Android Auto .. which pushed users to fiddle with youtube music on their phones instead of Android Auto... dangerouse

Same as WEB OS or Tizen OS, Seriously I like the idea being not only rely on Android auto or Apple Carplay. Create something innovative and easy to use not by TOUCH. some sort of we get Smart TV inside and all we need is Calls, SMS and Notifications nothing else is required from my phone to my Car, Entertainment Apps should be totally built in.

It's basically like the old infotainment systems where you had built in GPS & maps with their own UI that was different for every vehicle.

In this case the underlying OS is Android and Google is making them promise 8 years of map updates without extra fees. Both of those will help narrow down exactly how different each auto experience can be but it's still not what Android Auto is.

Apple Car Play is a low Spec iOS, which is already a low spec version of MacOS
Android Auto is also a low Spec Android.

both have little features and functions.

My still-going-strong Toyota is 15 years old and hasn't missed a beat. How will the built-in head unit in these new GM cars compare in 15 years time, will they be like the cd player I had and ditched for a new Android Auto-compatible Pioneer? With my modern phone, my old car can have latest technology.

in simple words, "android automotive" = "one ui, miui, ColorOS, etc" for vehicles and "android automotive" = "AOSP (android open source project)" for vehicles

Big mistake GM..... I will not be purchasing your vehicles.....they do this for politics....now, you will get stuck with some weird software that won’t work correctly.....this is sad.... I’ve fallen in love with Apple CarPlay.....

Oh wait, I can just run all the apps already on my phone, from my phone, without paying for it twice.

All I want is an ability to use my phone instead of their cheap android headunits. Android Auto was a middle ground. No need to buy a car even with free updates if it will be lagging as soon as there will be few extra apps running in backgrounds, with no ability to replace that shit.

i am using aibox with sim card android through carplay usb cable and iam not depend in a phone at all and i have full android version in stead of striped version that work in driving mode

Well this is a fine idea since IOS is tottal garbage and Android aint much better.
Harmiony OS is brilliant or the new thing by Geely from Meizu.
