$11,600 BYD Seagull launches on April 18 with 305 km sodium-ion battery

BYD Seagull is the first electric car from the Chinese giant to come with the sodium-ion battery. Priced very aggressively and with further dealer discounts, the Seagull is poised to take the market by storm.

when your people are earning USD400 a month in average, this is what you need. BYD has been exporting other models to foreign countries, but the prices double / triple. Look at their Atto3, the price is about 75% of the Tesla Model 3/Y.

What's the warranty on the battery? Not sure how China handles warranties but for the first generation of battery tech in a vehicle, I'd definitely want at least a 5 year warranty on it.

Is this sodium ion Seagull now more than just unconfirmed rumour and hearsay? Have BYD now officially confirmed this? A BYD link please ! If so it is a massively important, game-changing and bold move by BYD which will encourage other Chinese carmakers to speed up a transition towards sodium ion and combination sodium ion+lithium ion battery packs. Western carmakers and the media by contrast will try to ignore and delay the cost-crushing sodium ion revolution for as long as they think they can get away with it.
