During the summer, I could do 300 km on a full battery (71kwh).

The real range of EVs is a complicated thing that is affected heavily by regeneration, weather, cooling, heating etc.
It probably can be calculated based on route, if you use the car GPS ... and it is probably a good example of data, that can be effectively processed by AI.
But every current calculation is inaccurate, it does not help the fact that reserve battery differs car from car and is affected by firmware revisions, temperature and other aspects as well.

Even my old Ford Focus 2010 showed range as well, but I was well aware it was not accurate at all ... and it was a diesel where consumption does not jump wildly in any direction.

Sadly, this issue, right now, requires a dose of brain power to be used ...

Do not generalize. My current ford (and previous fiat) ICE shows exact km range on dashboard. It is driving style related and this is great. Ok, tesla is cheating, but it is fine because audi and vw cheated us in the past? Not really.

Useless. The Range Estimate readouts on all EV's are inherently USELESS because their reading is BEFORE you drive and how can the machine know if you are driving highway or city, fast or slow, headwind or tailwind etc, ad nauseum. If you want to know your possible range for a trip use TRIP SOFTWARE like ABRP. They are pretty good, if they have all the variables inputted correctly.

The way the battery indication works with Tesla seems the common way of doing with other EV manufacturers.

I guess that the reason Tesla did it applies to all. Tesla was caught; the others not (yet) ;-)
As the article points out, nobody brings their ICE car back to the manufacturer for cause of missing range!
