VinFast VF8 and VF9 coming to Canada and Europe

Greg, 16 May 2022Thanks for the clarification! So it's 'mandatory' to pay the battery fees when ... moreThey will start with subscription only but the cost of the battery is not included in the car so the starting prices are somewhat lower. The warranty is 10 years and 200,000 km which is right at the top among the best out there. On one hand entry price is lower and you get full 10 year warranty, if you battery gets replaced 9 years into ownership of the car - you get 10 year warranty again. On the other hand you need to carry on paying for that service - in the case of VF9 that's nearly $2,000 a year. If you intend to keep the car for 20 years you need to remember it will cost you an extra $40,000 over the years... ouch. But if you change the car every 3 years then it makes sense I guess since the purchase price of the car is lower. Battery as service make sense for some people, some prefer to own it.

So it's 'mandatory' to pay the battery fees when you purchase the car ? Or it's still at the discretion of the owner, if they want 'longer' service ? I hope that nonetheless, the batteries are at least warranted 2y (Common in Europe) but also for the battery pack, I think that Audi, BMW, others and even Tesla warranty their battery for at least 8 years (Or 250k km for Tesla, it seems brand new, I had a friend who got his Model S Battery pack changed after 9 years and 270k km, but it's a 'first gen' :)). Perhaps a EU regulation somewhere ? Because considering that the price of the car isn't that cheap, if you need to add 10-15k over time, it's not so much interesting :D
But again, they all try to sell something as a service / subscription so every month there is cash coming in ... And it'll workf on some that doesn't count ot look after all information :P

In a way spreading the cost of the battery over years makes the car cheaper, if the car is ok in a first few years and only battery fails it will be exchanged with the new battery getting full warranty - technically you could have anew battery every 7 or 8 years if you wanted to keep the car that long. Opinions are divided - I'm on the fence with this one.

So, for the battery 'warranty' service, they ask for 14 400 & 18 000 EUR respectively, for 10y. Isn't the cost of the battery pack at Tesla ? (Around 15k ?)
Is there any warranty on the battery whitout this 'service' subscription ? :)
