Not exactly a prime example of protecting local industry, more about a mob."
But this case is not about protecting local industry, but reduce trade balance.
If you increase 2x the price of iPhone, then of course less people will buy It so less iPhones will be imported. I just wonder, If this is also true for the more expensive Android phones.

What?
EU is capable of making their own cars, It's just more expensive.

Stefan, 13 Jun 2024I guess EU is missing the point here. Everybody (EU included) is in to have that damn climate ... moreI don't think China is serious about healthy climate or anything like that, It just that they see big money in It.
But I agree that making domestic cars cheaper is a much better option than making imported cars more expensive, because then more people will be able to buy them.

No, the point is to buy the overpriced domestic production.

Not exactly a prime example of protecting local industry, more about a mob. I guess the EU can learn from it though indeed. They're still in apprenticeship.
Hope people who like EVs will enjoy their overpriced Chinese cars there, lol.

I guess EU is missing the point here. Everybody (EU included) is in to have that damn climate saved, and here China is offering a solid solution to flood every street of the world with cheap clean vehicles, eradicating ICE solutions completely and with it cutting a solid part of emissions. If you don't want chinese cars, subsidize your local automakers to make these vehicles more accessible, subsidize the damn charging networks to have a charger at every corner. Do you want the healthy climate or do you want to drag the only nation that is really serious about cleaning this ICE mess up?

Teos, 12 Jun 2024Really? So no free market any more? Free market only when they are wining? Damn idiots, if ... moreThat's why EU wants to negotiate and not outright implement tariffs, because they know It will hurt them. VW was the best selling brand in China, sold 4.78x more cars than in Germany, maybe in China VW sold more cars than in EU.
Turkey had It much easier considering they didn't really have anything to loose in comparison.

The only result will be that you could have bought a cheaper car If you wanted, now you can't.

irony is that Giga Shanghai gets a lot of 'subsidies'.

Elon is the only auto ceo who gets a princely red carpet rollout.

It's about time the European Commission started cracking down on the unfair subsidies benefiting Chinese EV manufacturers. Our local EV industry needs to be protected.
