If BYD doesn't want to shoulder the extra tariffs, then It needs to build something in the EU.

BYD will start manufacturing EVs in Turkiye. this factory can also manufacture Nio for a selected model. BYD's factory is the one which VW decided to settle 2 years ago but, they changed their plans later. so, BYD bought it recently. ford, toyota, renault, fiat and togg already manufacture in Turkiye. automotive main-industry and sub-industry are really strong there.

Anonymous, 20 Sep 2024Belgium is costly. They are better off building something in eastern europe.True true
1. Workforce is costly
2. Many protective rules, that add (hidden) costs
3. Many existing, costly taxes
4. Taxes, especially local one, bear a negative outlook since the city/region level of debt has double during the exiting legislature, so companies should expect more/new taxes
5. Why building cars in a city/region that hates cars ?
6. Why building EV's in a city/region that never had any form of incentive for EV cars ?
Car industry is doomed in Brussels/Belgium, only import of cars from Zeebrugge harbor will remain.

Nio has manufacturing operations in Europe, in Hungary, but only for swap-stations (at the moment). Anyway, it does not make sense to have a facility in Belgium when you can make it in Romania/Bulgaria/Hungary/Croatia and pay a lot less for the workforce.

Anonymous, 20 Sep 2024Belgium is costly. They are better off building something in eastern europe.one of the bigger issues is many eu companies following americanism in business.
its not just vertical integration but mba'ing/mckinseying top heavy.

example - boeing commerical- they split/spun off internal sections to please politicans to get kickbacks
i mean its only boeing, airbus and somewhat embraer for now
but once another serious competitor starts ramping up in a real free market, bca is f'd.
